DevOps Engineer

This position reports to the Associate Director, Portfolio Management Integration within the Core Systems (CS) business unit and Group IT division.

The DevOps Support Engineer’s role is an essential role in the CS team.

The incumbent is responsible for proactively maintaining CS productions systems so that risks to loss of availability or performance are mitigated before an impact occurs. CS systems must be available a minimum of 99.95% of the time. The incumbent will also be required to make code and configuration changes to CS systems.

The incumbent will perform regular analysis of the applications, data, network, and technical components of the CS systems and work with application architects to plan future architectures, design and develop POC’s to explore new concepts.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Improve infrastructure performance and operational efficiency by reducing service downtime and maintaining or reducing transaction duration times.
  • Maintain key internal systems and services to keep CS as a team functioning. E.g. Version Control, System conformance, Knowledge support, release and deployment systems.
  • Complete all required training courses within the allocated timeframes.
  • Liaise with stakeholders such as internal and external development teams, and relevant IT teams ensuring ensure all stakeholders are considered and are informed of issues and risks in production. This will be measured by the number of escalations pertaining to lack of communication of production issues and risks.
  • Develop Subject Matter Expertise for the managed CS Products and Platforms. Ensure that all standard operating procedures, known issues and workarounds are documented in the knowledge support systems ( i.e. wiki )
  • Follow Change Management processes and procedures ensuring all necessary documentation is completed in necessary timeframes.
  • Maintain CS systems and make recommendations for improvements to those systems. Write code and change config to facilitate the improvements.
  • Resolve CS incidents within SLA’s. This will be measured by the IT fault management reporting systems.
  • Maintain and Operate the Core Systems Container platform ensuring hazardous conditions are remediated before they become service impacting.

 

Skills and Experience Required

 

 

  • 5 – 8 years industry experience in a devops team, IT or engineering projects.
  • Degree in Engineering , Computer Science
  • Knowledge of business processes and technical strategies that enable IT to support business needs
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the operations team of a large complex organization such as a Tier 1 telco or Bank.
  • Demonstrated experience in build and release management processes.( CI/ CD )
  • Demonstrated experience with software repositories such as GIT & Stash
  • Demonstrated experience with java build CI/CD tools such as Jenkins Maven & Openshift
  • Demonstrated experience with automation tools Puppet Enterprise, Docker, Ansible
  • Java Software development skills. Experience with Openshift ( Docker + kubernetes )
