Analytic Data Steward

The DCoE sits in the large consumer customer division of the Group as recognition of the focus Optus has on putting the customer first. The DCoE is establishing and embedding a Data Governance function for the Group. Data Governance, being the allocation and monitoring of data rights and responsibilities, is critical to the success of data management, and to Optus managing data as an asset.  Data stewardship is essential to the program’s success, and to support business owners understand, define, locate and manage their data and its quality, and to meet their data responsibilities to a range of internal and external data standards.


Data stewards represent a business function or capability and steward the data “owned” by the business function. They make recommendations to data owners and work closely with the people making, changing, processing and reporting data. They care about the data, and what it means, and how it is used. They ensure data is documented so others can find, understand and use it quicker and more cost effectively.


The role

  • Supports the Analytic Domain (and platform) owner set common customer data standards, definitions and quality requirements across all our enterprise data warehouse and Big Data environments.
  • Ensures all ingested data is defined and catalogued (including technical and business data), and where critical has clear data lineage, and a business data owner who approves its use, definition and quality requirements.
  • Co-ordinates data issues, and ensures they are prioritised, and actions attended to.
  • Administers the Analytic Data Governance Forum, ensuring agendas, DQ dashboards, issues, and any other relevant material is gathered and or prepared and distributed in a timing manner to members.
  • Collaborates across a range of business data users, process owners, systems owners, architects, engineers. and data creators to help achieve the objectives of the business function they support, while also ensuring adherence to data standards when using data form the Analytic platform
  • Provides advice for and monitors DQ reporting and leads DQ issue resolution and profiling where required.
  • Be a leader in the stewardship team in the partnering, engagement and stewardship skills they need to make data stewards effective.
  • Proactively manage risk, meeting policy and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with escalations from events, issues or breaches related to customer data

About you

Preferred skills and experience include:

  • Bachelors qualification in related field
  • 2+ year experience leading or supervising direct or indirect teams (such as team leader, project manager, or project workstream lead)
  • 10+yrs experience in data analysis, reporting and business intelligence.
  • Experience in enterprise governance or business data roles, or active stewardship in an enterprise wide business support role beneficial
  • Significant experience managing data warehouses, leading data architecture, managing big data platforms, or leading data product build processes will be viewed favorably. 
  • Deep understanding of data management platforms, associated processes and capabilities
  • Clear understanding of the Data Management maturity models and different data management practices /disciplines (including data architecture, master data mgmt. DQ, governance),


You would be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and multitask several different activities across critical deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
