Business Data Architect

The role of Business Data Architect is responsible for overseeing and executing the development and maintenance of the enterprise data model and also has an advising role for the modernisation and implementation of master data management, reference data management, Big Data and meta data management for Optus’ systems and applications.

The role will be part of the Business Data Architecture chapter leading Data Modelers and designers who will work across multiple analytics and reporting squads and also in the DCOE to drive conformance to the enterprise data model standards.

The role needs to work closely with the IT leadership and domain architects, solution architects and play an advising role in the implementation of Data tooling such as Master Data Management, Reference Data Management, Meta Data Management, Analytics and Big Data.

The role

  • Detailing data architecture guidelines, policies and modeling standards
  • Designing data target architecture, including guidelines for tooling
  • Develop data architecture roadmap to meet multiple business use case requirements
  • Conduct impact assessment on target vs existing architecture
  • Detail enterprise data model, identify domains, and prioritize critical data elements
  • Contribute to development of Enterprise Data Catalog and business glossary
  • Drive compliance of projects to established data architecture standards and metrics
  • Communicate and enforce architectural policies, rules, and standards
  • Advise on potential resolutions for data issues and support prioritization of large improvement opportunities
  • Manage talent acquisition and development of chapter members

About you

Preferred skills and experience include:

  • Bachelor’s in engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics etc.
  • 10-15 years of experience in lead data solution architect related positions within the Telco data domain (across OSS and BSS systems) and leveraging modern Big data technologies
  • Able to understand business requirements and clearly define supporting data requirements (preferably in Telco data domains)
  • Experience across Data management lifecycle (ingestion, profiling, transformation, integration, summarization, publication and archiving of data sets to support multiple use cases)
  • Experience in defining and executing business data architecture across large scale data systems platforms (e.g. Big Data Lakes, Enterprise Data Warehouses and MDM systems)
  • Knowledge of Data systems and platforms ( e.g. Master Data Management, document management, data warehouses, BI tooling, visualisation, business data lakes, integration etc)
  • Agile Ways of Working skills (preferably in the capacity of a Product Owner/Chapter Lead across Agile Tribes)
  • Effective communicator – able to present content and gain buy-in from stakeholders
  • Able to balance business needs with IT capabilities
